That second one with the dog caught my attention because when my husband died, I too picked a photo for the obituary that included the trusty Labrador companion. I was very disappointed when the newspaper informed me that due to the number of obituaries for that day, they could not print the photo large enough to show my husband adequately without cropping out the dog. So I was quite happy to see this had not happened to this fellow. And then, to my extreme amusement, the obituary itself listed the human survivors followed by "Also survived by his faithful companion of ten years, his dog Bailey." You don't see that very often in an obituary. Perhaps mention of pets and how important they may have been, but never "survived by." As near as I could tell, this dog was instrumental in this man negotiating his battle with cancer. A very nice tribute.
